FIXTURES & RESULTS

Saturday 15 November 2.30pm Kick off at Riada Stadium

Ballymoney United 2 v Tobermore United 0

Ballymoney got back to winning ways with a victory which took them above their opposition in the league. The visitors were the first to threaten, a cross into the box by McIntyre picked out Doherty but his header was easily dealt with by Smyth. Surgenor who was playing at centre half almost gave Ballymoney the lead with 20 mins gone, a corner by McLernon picked him out on the edge of the box, his volley though sailed over the bar.
Ballymoney came closer in their next attack, McKinney beat two defenders on the edge of the box and bent a shot towards the bottom corner unfortunately for the striker it went the wrong side of the post. The home side broke the deadlock with thirty minutes on the clock, McKinney played a superb ball over the Tobermore defence into the path of Nicholl to got to the ball before the advancing keeper and toe-poked the ball past him into the net.
Ballymoney had Smyth to thank for going into the break one up, the big keeper produced heroics to deny Pattinson on two ocassions.
Ballymoney were forced into a change at the the break with McLaughlin replacing the injured Nicholl. McLaughlin almost created an opening for McKinney with his first touch of the game but his pass was overhit which allowed the visitors to clear the danger.
Ten minutes into the second half Smyth came to Ballymoney's rescue, the defence went to sleep and allowed Tobermore to take a quick free kick, the ball was played through to Doherty but Smyth timed his advance perfectly to block his low shot. The Toon kept pushing forward looking for the second goal, right back Hadden, played a one-two with McLaughlin bit his powerful shot from 25 yds was straight at the keeper.
With ten minutes remaining Ballymoney's pressure paid of, McKinney produced a touch of genius when he played a sublime reverse pass into the path of the hard working O'Kane who took the ball round the keeper before slotting it into the empty net. In the final minutes of the game Doherty almost pulled a goal back for the visitors in spectacular fashion but his overhead kick was tipped over the bar by that man Smyth again. substitute Burnside fresh from his goal feast with the reserves last week almost made it three nil in the games final action, he beat two men inside the box and only a full length save by Hasson denied him.
