Saturday 2nd
August 2.30pm Kick off at Coagh United
Coagh
0 - 2 Ballymoney United
Ballymoney
opened their championship campaign with an impressive display away
to a strong Coagh United team. In a weather affected first half
there wasn't much between the teams and defenders were very much on
top. Neither team created any real chances and both teams seemed to
be content to go into the break on level terms.
In the second half Ballymoney's sharp
movement and accurate passing started to take its toll on the home
team and chances started to come along. Adam McKinney, Gareth
McLaughlin and Gavin Burnside were all holding the ball up well and
taking on the home defence and it was only a matter of time before a
constructive chance was created.
It took until
the 79th minute before Ballymoney took the lead as a great through
ball by Aidan O'Kane sent Pixie through on goal and he wasn't going
to spurn the opportunity as he sent a thunderous shot into the back
of the net.
The expected onslaught from the home team
never came as Ballymoney snuffed out any threats and meant that all
Coagh had to offer was long balls into the box that were easily
dealt with by the Gage brothers.
Ballymoney
looked the greater threat and David Nicholl a second half sub
finished off a good move from 6 yards to put the result beyond
doubt. In the last few minutes fellow sub Eoin Hudson also had two
great chances to further increase the lead but it wasn't to be and
the toon ran out two nil winners.
Next up is Larne and another three points
at home would set the toon up nicely but we have a few players
missing and with Tully not being able to last a full game the full
squad will be tested. The confidence and quality in the squad will
pull the team through, come on the wee toon!
