FIXTURES & RESULTS

Saturday 18 October 2.30pm Kick off at Dixon Park

Ballyclare Comrades 2 v Ballymoney United 1

Both teams started in lively fashion with both defences on top and the game mostly played in midfield. The visitors looked the more dangerous of the two breaking dangerously on occasions but failing with the final pass. A quick break on 15 minutes nearly caught out the Ballymoney defence when Hill let fly with a great shot well saved by Smyth.
Ballymoney weathered the storm and created a very good chance after a slick passing move let in McKinney on 25 minutes his shot was smothered by Mannus in the Comrades goal. The game livened up at this stage and it was Smyth in the visitors goal turn to pull of a superb save from Burns on the half hour.
Ballyclare took control of the game at this stage and following good work down the left by Bell his cross found Burns whose effort was going wide Smyth in the Ballymoney goal let the ball go wide not knowing that Hill had sneaked in to divert the ball into the empty goal. Bell came close with a fine effort just before half time Smyth bringing of a great save this time. Half Time Ballyclare 1 Ballymoney United 0
Ballymoney put on the pressure after half time but couldn’t break down a very resolute home defence. However on the hour a break down the left resulted in a corner and was cleanly headed home by Hill giving Munnus in the home goal no chance. Ballymoney couldn’t make much impact on the Ballyclare team looking to regain the lead and on 70 minutes they were rewarded with a fantastic goal from Smith.
Comrades continued to press and Bell brought another great save out of Smyth. The Visitors came close just before the end when David Gage headed over from close range.
