Saturday 7
March 2.30pm Kick off at Riada tadium
Ballymoney United 2 v Armagh
City 0
Ballymoney went on the attack right from the start and had McFredrick in action in the first minute bringing off a great save form Nicholl.
McLernon found himself in front of goal on 10 mins with only the keeper to beat he miss hit a weak shot straight at the keeper again an easy save for McFredrick.
The home team continued to attack and were rewarded on 15 mins when David Gage overlapped down the left and crossed to Surgenor who made no mistake with an accurate header wide of the hapless McFredrick to take the lead.
It was all Ballymoney at this stage and the home team nearly went further ahead when a well worked free kick by Nicholl and McLernon caught out the visitors defence but not the alert McFredrick.
Both teams were playing attractive football and McCann got away from the home defence to bring a great save from Smyth on 25 mins.
It was Ballymoney who came closest to extending their lead when a McLernon free kick on the half hour found Denver Gage who crashed a header against the crossbar Surgenor was on hand for the rebound but could only watch in dismay as McFredrick made another great save.
Ballymoney broke down the right as half time approached through Hadden who crossed to the front post for Nicholl to sneak in ahead of the Armagh defence to notch number two.
Half Time Ballymoney United 2 Armagh City 0
Ballymoney started the second in shaky fashion allowing Armagh to much room and but for the offside flag the visitors would have been back in the game through McCane.
This acted as a wake up call for the home team who settled into their usual defensive pattern.
Armagh had a speculative effort from McCann well saved Smyth on the hour but apart from that Ballymoney were well in control.
A ridiculous decision by referee Paul Docherty on the word of his linesman saw Surgenor sent off on 75 mins for what was a tame tackle on goalkeeper McFredrick. The keeper put on such an act he managed to con the officials.
Ten men Ballymoney continued to attack and from a fantastic piece of football saw Nicholl pass to McLernon who quickly slipped the ball behind the defender again to Nicholl who sent a deft cross into the path of Kearney who somehow missed an easy chance to extend the home score.
Ballymoney continue to dominate the game and but for a Walker McNiell combination late in the game well marshalled by the home defence Armagh had little to offer.
Final Score Ballymoney United 2 Armagh City 0
